Itineraries

The Alta Via n. 1 of Valle d’Aosta, or Alta Via dei Giganti, is a hiking itinerary with an incomparable scenery, which develops at the foot of the highest massifs in Europe: Monte Rosa, the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc. The Alta Via n. 1 connects Donnas to Courmayeur. The Barma Refuge is an excellent support point for those who undertake this experience in its entirety or for a stretch.

From the hut you can reach hills and peaks and enjoy numerous hikes of varying difficulty and length, ring trails, equipped paths, via ferrata and, last but not least, the climbing cliffs. The refuge will be a reliable and welcoming place to receive information and support.

The Barma cliff

A few steps from the Barma Refuge there is a beautiful cliff, divided into three sections for a total of 22 pitches that can satisfy beginners as well as high-level climbers.

“Bellevue” sector, stunning views of the lake and Mont Mars, 8 routes suitable for everybody with holes and notches on the wall overhanging
“La dalle Verte” sector, 6 routes for children and beginners, beautiful plaques leaning against each other
“La Plage” sector, 8 lakeside routes for expert climbers, vertical and overhanging routes up to 7 a/b

The cliff was equipped by the mountain guide Davide Frachey with the patronage of the Municipality of Fontainemore.

"My name is Davide Frachey and I am an instructor of the Alpine Guides, born and raised in Issime, in the Gressoney Valley. I live the mountain at 360°, guiding clients everywhere, through ice, rock faces and wild valleys... I love to climb, from the cliff to the mountain, the stones, every occasion is perfect to touch rock of all kinds. The opening of new lines, whether they are blocks of a few meters or large classic walls, always represents the ultimate goal to give yourself great emotions."
